For owner and baker Liz, Sift & Sip was built on a leap of faith.
“While my business officially launched in the fall of 2020, I’ve been baking since I could hold a spatula! Sift and Sip was born after I finally decided to face my fear of failing versus the regret of never taking the leap.”
Since its launch, Sift & Sip has become a go-to destination for custom-decorated sugar cookies, cupcakes, oatmeal cream pies, and other handcrafted treats. Apart from those, Liz also hosts seasonal pop-ups, holiday pre-sales, cookie decorating classes, and collaborates with her wife on small-batch seasonal simple syrups perfect for cocktails.
What makes Sift & Sip stand out is its ability to create meaningful, personalized desserts that help customers celebrate everything from birthdays and baby showers to professional milestones and community events.
There’s a Cookie for Every Story
As a full-time fan girl, Liz uses cookies to channel her art, things she’s passionate about, interested in, or fixated on at the moment. That drives her to make cookies and gift them to people she looks up to as well. Recently, Liz gifted cookies to Lily Allen and the Mo News Team in New York City.
“I have yet to talk to Lily herself, but I’m one degree closer after meeting her lovely assistant! The Mo News Team gave me a tour of their studio and even chatted about the cookies on their daily podcast (which you should all check out!) and it made my entire month.”
She also finds how cookies can connect with people across different occasions as rewarding.
“My favorite thing about decorated cookies is that they meet people wherever they are! Celebrating milestones, showing gratitude, paying tribute, or just capturing a pop culture moment are all things that can be channeled into a cookie.”
Over the years, she’s brought countless creative themes to life, including an “elder emo” set, a Sandlot-inspired birthday celebration, a locally grown baby shower, and even a London-themed cookie collection for a family preparing to move overseas.
Baking As a Love Language
For Liz, baking is also more than creating beautiful desserts. It’s also about building connections and giving back. Over the years, she has teamed up with local organizations and businesses to raise funds for causes close to her heart.
“From LGBTQIA+ causes (one of my local favorites is Thrive Youth Center), to organizations that support immigrant communities, to helping get people registered to vote — there’s a cookie for that!”
That philosophy has helped Sift & Sip build a loyal following while turning cookies into a platform for creativity, gratitude, and social impact.
